The Franklin Gem and Mineral Society held the first Program for junior geologists (Rockhounds) on April 15th at 3:30pm in the Macon County Library.

Hats off to Dr. Susan Ray for starting this program. The class was led by Varshana Dholakia, Marsha Harmon, Earl McGaughey & Ron Biscoff.  Thirty 3rd and 4th graders, some siblings and their parents attended. The kids were excited and quite enthusiastic to be there. They had questions on the minerals, testing of the minerals and rock ID. We’re planning a monthly class at the library; the next dates are Monday March 18 & April 15 from 3:30 to 5pm in the kids' program room at the Franklin public library.
